v1.2.1
This is not a devlog
In this little post I just want to give the mandatory information for using Engima 1.2.1. For starters, you can only decrypt the files created and encrypted with enigma, using their respective Enigma versions. This software is intentionally made in a way that leaves as little of a trace as possible to prevent outsiders from accessing your data. So if you lose your password or the newly added key file you are, forgive my language, fucked.
So regularly backup encrypted files and password or backup the plain text json data you can export from the editor window, which you access with your password and key file. Place these backups on a non connected physical medium like an usb stick and put it somewhere safe.
I am accoutable for your incapability of making backups.
What’s new in v1.2.1
Mainly the key file. Before there was one file containing all data accessible by a password of your choice. Now there is a key file containing a random sequence of bytes encrypted by a password of your choice. This sequence, when decrypted, acts as a second decryption layer for your data. Also making it easier to seperate both data and the key belonging to it.
Should you migrate
If you are planning on increasing your security: yes.
QOL-Features
- Ctrl + H: Hide all passwords on the screen
- Drag & Drop: You can now just drag your content and your key file into their respective slots from anywhere
- Tabbing in Login: Now skips the hiding owls to prevent showing you passwords by accident
Where are the files created in the login screen
- Windows: %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\Narrenschlag’s Enigma/bin/
- macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Godot/app_userdata/Narrenschlag’s Enigma/bin/
- Linux: ~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/Narrenschlag’s Enigma/bin/
There you will find the new_key.key and new_entries.key files. You can change their name and extension to anything you want. Even .txt or .exe files, doesn’t matter.
Enjoy
